Being one of the most ancient cities in the world Kayseri (Masaka, Kaisarei) was the region named Cappadocia in the classical era. This region is located to the South of the Kızılırmak River and extends from the Salt Lake to the Fırat River. Since the Silk Road passed through this region, it attracted the attention of many nations and became one of the cradles of civilization
Today, Kayseri is one of the leading and most developed cities in the Middle Anatolian region. Tumulus Kültepe, known as the most ancient settlement area around Kayseri, is about 20 km from the City Center. Formerly the capital city of Kayseri, Kaniş preserved its importance from 2800 BC until the Hellenistic Age. Karum (commonly known as ‘the bazaar’), is adjacent to Kültepe and was established by the Asur merchants. Excavations of this site have continued since starting in 1948. During excavation more than 20,000 cuneiform tablets have been found providing invaluable clues about the age of the site. The texts contain trade relations, agreements, and letters. Many historical monuments and items belonging to the Ancient Bronze Age, Asur Trade Colonies, and Hittites Age have been excavated in Kültepe and are on exhibition in the Archaeological Museum in the City Center.

Kayseri Castle, Hunat Mosque and its madrasa, Gevher Nesibe Madrasa (converted to a Seljuk museum), Döner Cupola, Karatay Inn, Sultan Inn, Çifte Cupola, Hacı Kılıç Mosque, and the Kurşunlu Mosque are among the most important historical monuments, most of which can be found in the City Center. Sultan Sazlığı, Kapuzbaşı Waterfalls, Soğanlı Valley, and Ağırnas Underground City are among the natural beauties of Kayseri.
Having a height of 3917 metres and being one of the most volcanic mountains in Turkey, Mt. Erciyes is situated in Kayseri. The skiing center on Mount Erciyes is one of the most important skiing centers in Turkey. Skiing on the powdery snow on Mt. Erciyes in winter is a leisure and pleasure activity for visitors. Erciyes Skiing Center is approximately 25 km from the hospitals of Erciyes University
Apart from the historical and touristic sights in Kayseri the accommodation and local cuisine are also worth mentioning. Not only are there 3 worldwide famous five star hotels, but there are also a number of 3 and 4 star hotels located in the City Center. As for Kayseri food, besides its worldwide famous pastrami and sausages, the “luscious“ mantı, suböreği, katmer, yağlama, kurşunaşı, bazlama, fırınağzı, arabaşı, aside, nevzine, and stuffed gra[e leaves are amongst the City’s most famous dishes.
Kayseri, having a population of 1,295,000 people, has made significant progress in terms of industry and production. The City is an industrial Turkish city and has many famous brands. The city hosts several state-run and private universities, namely Erciyes University, which is the oldest, Kayseri University, Abdullah Gül University, and Nuh Naci Yazgan University. Many businessmen and bureaucrats are from Kayseri. The eleventh president of the Turkish Republic, Abdullah Gül, and the president of North Cyprus Turkish Republic, Derviş Eroğlu are also from Kayseri. There are 16 daily flights from Istanbul and Antalya and direct daily flights from Germany and the Netherlands to Kayseri. Within Kayseri a well-developed highway and railway transportation network can be found.
Kayseri airport is 6 km away from the City Center, 10 km from Erciyes University and it only takes 5 to 10 minutes by car. Moreover, Kayseri, as part of Cappadocia, is just 70 km away and its roads provide easy transportation to Ürgüp and Göreme, where one can visit world famous fairy chimneys and take balloon flights to view the famous landscape.
